Stone Arch Bridge

From the heritage plaque:

"This stone arch bridge was designed by Mr V. Williams and was built by local stonemasons Messrs James Clyde and James Elliot.   It was completed October 13, 1884 at a cost of $3800.

Restored in 1979 by the Town of St Marys with a grant from the Ontario Heritage Foundation."

William Williams was the architect of the James Carter House and the third story of the W. V. Hutton / McPherson block.   James Elliot was the mason for the Opera House.   His stepson John Elliot was responsible for the stonework at the Town Hall.   Williams was the architect and Clyde and Elliot were masons responsible for the extensive renovations to the St James Anglican Church in 1886.

This is one of 94 heritage bridges of provincial significance that also includes St Marys' Victoria bridge. Although not designated a heritage property St Marys also has the Water Street Steel Bridge
